The department came into existence with the establishment of the college in July 1957, the department has been imparting quality education to its students with a high consistency, based on latest syllabi prescribed by C.C.S. University Meerut. it has a wealth of highly qualified and experienced faculty supported by dedicated non teaching staff.
Initially it catered to the need of under graduates only but later on was upgrade to post graduate level in july 1973. Since then about 14 perons, including eminent faculties and students have obtained Ph.D degree under the guidance of past & present faculites of this department. The department also provides excellent research facilities in diverse areas of botany.
A considerable number of alumini and some teachers of the department are well placed and occupying top possition in various field such as teaching in universities and colleges, Scientist in National Research Institutes, Indian Forest Services, Civil Services etc. in the country.
The department has spacious, well equipped labs seprately for B.Sc, M.Sc (Pre) and M.Sc (Final) classes. Beside these there is a microbiology lab for research and M.Sc students. There is also provision of Dark Room for Photography. A modern tissue culture laborarty coming up fast.
